ART DEPARTMENT
Florence is definitely an additional source of inspiration
for those who want to learn all the secrets of art, drawing
and painting.
The Istituto Italiano has an Art Department staffed by renowned
Florentine artists, who in addition to being creative, have
a talent for teaching and great skills in conveying their
art to students of any level.
DRAWING
The drawing course accepts a maximum of
8 students per class, so the instructor can dedicate time
to each student to achieve the utmost in terms of results.
The course program is the following (lessons are in Italian):
Introduction and brief historical background.
The fundamentals of drawing. Shape and proportion. Geometric
figures. Hatching. Composition. Chiaroscuro. Pencil sketching.
Charcoal and sanguine. The landscape and nature. The still-life.
Drawing a face. Portraits. Pastels. Exercises.
Required materials (not included in
the course fee):
Pencils: HB, B, 2B, 4B, 6B , 1 eraser,
1 kneaded eraser, 1 pencil sharpener, 1 charcoal pencil,
1 sanguine pencil; drawing paper 30 x 50 cm. rough, one
box of pastels assorted colors.

or purchase them in Florence at a local art supply store
that offers our students a special discount..
Course duration: from 1 to 6 months.
PAINTING
Painting lessons are held for groups of not
more than 8 students at a time.
The course program (lessons are in Italian):
Tempera - Introduction and brief historical background. Techniques.
Exercises.
Liquid tempera - Glazing. The still-life. Landscapes. Exercises.
Pastels - Techniques. Exercises.
Watercolors - Techniques. Exercises.
Required materials (not included in the
course fee):
Temperas: primary colors: white, black, red,
yellow, blue; secondary colors: green, brown, ochre, sienna;
sable brushes: 4 round, and 5 flat (sizes from 2 to 14), plastic
or wood palette, water cup, rough paper 30 x 50 cm, canvas
board 30 x 50 cm.
Watercolors: watercolor pad, size A4, a set of water paints,
watercolor brushes in assorted sizes, water cup.
